Description: The dorsum is a variable tone of greenish brown
with markings consisting of a dark interorbital bar bordered
anteriorly by a whitish bar, a W-shaped mark in the scapular
area and usually some yellowish flecks. It has a postorbital
stripe and lip bars. The flanks, groin, anterior surfaces of thighs
and posterior surfaces of the tibia show a pattern of black
and white/red/yellow diagonal bars. The posterior surfaces
of the thighs are dark with cream or orange spots. The venter
is white with black mottling that varies from boldly mottled
in most individuals to a few flecks in others. The throat shows
dark flecks. The ventral surfaces of the limbs are bright red/
pink in most individuals, but in some cases they are bluishwhite. The iris is golden with black flecks, a median horizontal
red streak and a vertical black streak.
Similar species: Pristimantis ventrimarmoratus, P. divnae and
P. sp4 have a similar pattern on the venter and groin but lack
a visible tympanum. P. eurydactylus is also similar, except the
venter is not boldly mottled and the markings of the groin
and thighs are different.
Habitat and ecology: Found only at night, often near streams.
This species is similar to the widely ranged nominal P.
diadematus, but it differs in certain small features.

At the MLC: Found at night usually near streams in partially
cleared and now regenerating and minimally disturbed
forest. It ranges from 450 to 1000 m asl. A female with eggs
was found next to a stream at the end of the wet season.
Another female with eggs was found in the dry season (July).

Descripción: El dorso es de un tono variable de marrón verdoso.
Presenta una barra interorbital oscura bordeada anteriormente
por una banda blanca, además de una marca en forma de W en
la zona escapular y normalmente algunas motas amarillas. Los
flancos, ingle, las parte de atrás de los muslos y partes delanteras
de la tibia muestran un patrón de barras diagonales de color
negro y blanco/amarillo/rojo. Las superficies posteriores de los
muslos son oscuras y tienen puntos de color crema o naranja.
El vientre es de color blanco con moteado negro que suele estar
bien definido en la mayoría de individuos, pero puede limitarse a
unas pocas motas en otros. La garganta muestra motas oscuras.
Las superficies ventrales de las patas son de color rojo-rosa vivo
en la mayoría de los individuos, pero en algunos casos son de
color blanco azulado. El iris es dorado con motas negras, una
banda horizontal roja y una banda vertical negra atravesándolo.
Especies similares: Pristimantis ventrimarmoratus, P. divnae y
P. sp4 tienen un patrón similar en el vientre y la ingle pero su
tímpano no es tan notorio. P. eurydactylus es similar pero el
vientre carece de motas bien definidas y las marcas de la ingle y
muslos son diferentes.
Hábitat y ecología: Encontrada solo durante l
