Description: The dorsum of this small frog is olive to light
brown/tan with dorsolateral folds. Some markings can be
present including an interorbital bar and chevrons on the
dorsum. There is a dark stripe running from the snout and
over the eye to the tympanum. The limbs show dark brown
transverse bands. The groin, back of the thighs and tibias are
yellow/orange. The venter can be white with yellow blotches
or yellow with white blotches, and small brown flecks on
the throat. The iris is bicolored; the upper part is golden and
finely black reticulated whilst the lower part is reddish brown.
Similar species: Pristimantis rhabdolaemus is very similar
in pattern, but P. pharangobates has a more pointy snout,
the dorsal chevrons are narrower and it lacks conspicuous
brown flecks on throat and chest. Also P. rhabdolaemus has
tubercles on the heels and tarsus, as well asl arger scapular
tubercles. P. buccinator lacks the yellow coloration, has a dark
face mask and has more conspicuous dorsolateral folds. P.
skydmainos also lacks the yellow coloration, has a distinctive
black spot in the middle of the dorsum and less conspicuous
dorsolateral folds.
Habitat and ecology: This frog inhabits montane rainforest
between 1200 and 2750 m asl in southeast Peru and northern
Bolivia. It has been found on low vegetation.

Descripción: El dorso de esta rana pequeña es de coloración
oliva a marrón claro/canela con pliegues dorsolaterales.
Puede presentar algunas marcas: barra interorbital y marcas
triangulares en el dorso. Tiene una franja oscura que va desde
la nariz hasta el tímpano pasando por el ojo. Los flancos son
más claros. Las patas muestran bandas transversales de color
marrón oscuro. La ingle, parte trasera de los muslos y tibias
son de color amarillo/naranja. El vientre puede ser blanco con
manchas amarillas o amarillo con manchas blancas, y motas
marrones en la garganta. El iris es bicolor; la parte superior es
dorada y finamente reticulada de negro mientras que la parte
inferior es de color marrón rojizo.
Especies similares: Pristimantis rhabdolaemus es muy parecida,
pero P. pharangobates tiene una nariz más puntiaguda, las
marcas triangulares dorsales son más estrechas y carece
de motas marrones evidentes en la garganta y el pecho. P.
rhabdolaemus presenta tubérculos en los talones y en el
tarso, y tubérculos escapulares largos. P. buccinator no tiene la
coloración amarilla, tiene una máscara facial negra y pliegues
dorsolaterales más marcados. P. skydmainos también carece de
la coloración amarilla, tiene un punto negro característico en el
medio del dorso y pliegues dorsolaterales menos marcados.
Hábitat y ecología: Esta rana ha bita bosque montano entre los
1200 y 2750 msnm en el sudeste de Perú y norte de Bolivia. Ha
sido encontrada en vegetación baja.
