Pristimantis danae Pristimantis danae Scientific synonyms/Sinónimos científicos: Eleutherodactylus danae Common names/Nombres comunes: Cuzco robber frog/Cutín de Cusco** Description: The dorsum can vary from tan to dark brown or grey, with dark brown chevron-shaped markings. A black stripe runs from the tip of the snout and over the eye to the tympanum and forearm. Transverse bands are present on the limbs. The back of the thighs have orange/yellow flecks. The areolated venter is white to yellowish white with some dark flecks on the throat. The iris is golden with a median horizontal reddish streak. Similar species: Pristimantis reichlei and P. danae are, morphologically, almost identical. The spots on the back of the thighs are more orange in P. reichlei and more yellow in P. danae. Also, P. danae has faint dorsolateral folds, which are absent in P. reichlei. Other Pristimantis with spots on the posterior surfaces of the thighs have dorsolateral folds and smooth venters. Habitat and ecology: This nocturnal, semiarboreal frog inhabits lower montane forest between 500 and 2000 metres asl. It can be found on low vegetation, hunting for prey using a sit-and-wait strategy. Females deposit between 28 and 40 eggs in each clutch. At the MLC: Not recorded. Although, P. reichlei indiviuals found in the upper areas of the Piñi Piñi range have a different call to the ones found in the lower areas, and they could be affiliated to P. danae. Presenta una banda negra que va de la punta del hocico al timpano y pata delantera pasando por el ojo. Presenta bandas transversales en las patas. La parte de atrás de los muslos tiene puntos naranjas/amarillos. El vientre areolado es blanco o blanco amarillento con algunas motas oscuras en la garganta. El iris es dorado con una banda horizontal roja cruzándolo. Especies similares: Pristimantis reichlei y P. danae son morfológicamente casi idénticas. Los puntos en la parte trasera de los muslo son más naranjas en P. reichlei y más amarillos en P. danae. Además P. danae tiene pliegues dorsolaterales muy débiles, que no presenta P. reichlei. Otras Pristimantis con puntois en las superficies posteriores de los muslo tienen pliegues dorsolaterales y vientres lisos. Hábitat y ecología: Esta rana nocturna y semiarbórea habita bosques montanos bajos entre los 500 y los 2000 msnm. Puede ser encontrada en vegetación baja cazando, usando una estrategia de emboscada. Las hembras depositan entre 28 y 40 huevos por puesta. En el MLC: No registrada; aunque los individuos de P. reichlei encontrados en las zonas altas de la cordillera del Piñi Piñi difieren en canto de los encontrados en las zonas bajas
