Pristimantis altamazonicus
Pristimantis altamazonicus
Scientific synonyms/Sinónimos científicos: Eleutherodactylus altamazonicus
Common names/Nombres comunes: Amazon robber frog/Cutín amazónico
Description: The pattern of colouration of this small frog is
quite variable. The dorsum is shagreen and can be tan, brown,
greenish or reddish. It usually shows some markings such as
W-shaped mark in the back, a light interorbital bar and lip
bars. In some individuals the dorsum can be completely tan
with darker flanks. The iris is copper coloured with fine black
reticulations. The limbs usually show dark transverse marks.
The venter is usually dark with some small white flecks.
Similar species: The orange and black in the groin distinguishes
this species from other Pristimantis in the area.
Habitat and ecology: Inhabits tropical lowland and montane
rainforest up to 1150 m asl. It is more common in primary
terra firma forest, but has been found in varzea and disturbed
forests. Mainly nocturnal, but individuals have also been
found active during the day. It probably lays two clutches of
about 20 to 30 eggs under the leaf litter. It feeds on small
invertebrates using a sit-and-wait strategy.
At the MLC: Found mainly in minimally disturbed forest, but
occasionally found in other kinds of forests. It is also fairly
common around the MLC facilities. An amplectant pair was
found in the dry season (August).
Craugastoridae
IUCN Status: Least Concern. Stable. (Ver. 3.1)
Estable. (Ver. 3.1 )
