Cochranella nola
Cochranella nola
Scientific synonyms/Sinónimos científicos: Common names/Nombres comunes: Bell glass frog**/Ranita de cristal campana**
Description: This bright green glass frog has an unmarked
granular dorsum. The flanks and the lip are white. Fingers and
toes are green, but some individuals can have a red blotch on
the fingers. The chest is covered by a white tissue surface
called pericardium, leaving just the lower belly transparent
and a longitudinal midventral vein visible. The iris is pale gray
with fine black reticulations.
Similar species: Rulyrana spiculata is slightly smaller, more
robust, lacks the white lip and has more webbing between
the fingers and toes. Teratohyla midas is smaller, slender, has
a smoother skin and have some yellow spots on the dorsum.
Hyalonobatrachium species have a completely see-through
venter.
Habitat and ecology: This stream dweller can be found in
montane and foothill sites between 500 and 1600 m asl, fairly
high up in riparian vegetation in humid areas of the streams.
Rain episodes make males call actively and descend down to
where they can be calling from boulders. There is a probable
relictual population in a dry semi-deciduous forest in Bolivia.
At the MLC: It can be heard calling from high up in the
trees in many small rocky streams in partially cleared and
now regenerating and minimally disturbed forest areas.
Occasionally, individuals come down lower to breed after
heavy rain episodes.

IUCN Status: Near threatened. Decreasing. (Ver. 3.1)
reproducirse tras lluvias fuertes.
Estado de la UICN: Casi amenazada. Disminuyendo. (Ver. 3.1)
