Description : This medium sized frog has a very variable pattern of colouration . The smooth dorsum is yellowish brown to dark green . It has dark markings on the dorsum , usually consisting of longitudinal stripes and some spots on the flanks . The groin and the hidden surfaces of the thighs have a distinctive pattern of dark blotches / mottling over a yellow ground color . The venter is white . The iris is bronze with fine black reticulations and a median horizontal black stripe . Males adopt a bright yellow colouration while breeding .
Similar species : Scinax chiquitanus is quite similar but it is smaller , lacks the dorsolateral stripes , and the back of the thighs are tan with or without a longitudinal broad dark brown stripe and pale spots . S . garbei has a similar black and yellow pattern on the thighs , but has a warty dorsum and a pointy nose . Other Scinax species in the area lack the markings on the limbs .
Habitat and ecology : This nocturnal , wary species inhabits clearings and forest edge areas . It is especially common around buildings and villages . It breeds throughout the year with a peak in the rainy season . Females deposit up to 1100 eggs in vegetation over temporary ponds where the tadpoles develop after hatching . It feeds on a wide array of invertebrates .
At the MLC : Very common around the MLC buildings and also found in the forest close to MLC facilities .

Descripción : Esta rana de tamaño medio tiene un patrón muy variable de coloración . El dorso es liso y varía de marrón amarillento a verde oscuro . Tiene marcas oscuras en el dorso , que normalmente consistende de bandas longitudinales y de algunos puntos en los flancos . La ingle y superficies ocultas de los muslos tienen un característico patrón de manchas / motas oscuras sobre un color de fondo amarillo . El vientre es blanco . El iris es bronce con un fino reticulado negro y una banda horizontal negra cruzándolo . Los machos adoptan una coloración amarilla brillante cuando están en época reproductiva .
Especies similares : Scinax chiquitanus es bastante similar pero es más pequeña , no tiene las bandas dorsolaterales y la parte trasera de los muslos es canela con o sin una ancha banda longitudinal marrón oscuro y puntos pálidos . S . garbei tiene un patrón negro y amarillo parecido en los muslos , pero tiene un dorso verrugosos y una nariz puntiaguda . Otras especies de Scinax carecen de marcas en las patas .
Hábitat y ecología : Esta especie nocturna y recelosa habita áreas aclaradas y de borde de bosque . Es especialmente común alrededor de edificios y pueblos . Se reproduce durante todo el año con un pico en la estación húmeda . Las hembras depositan hasta 1100 huevos en vegetación sobre charcas temporales , donde los renacuajos se desarrollarán . Se alimenta de un amplio espectro de invertebrados .
En el MLC : Es muy común alrededor de los edificios del MLC y también se encuentra en el bosque cerca de las instalaciones del MLC .
