Scinax garbei

Description : The dorsal colouration is usually grey , light brown or tan with a darker triangle marking between the eyes . Occasionally it can have a greenish tinge on the dorsum . It has a “ rocky ” appearance with several large tubercles on the dorsum . The posterior surfaces of the hind limbs have a pattern of orange / yellow and black bars . It has transverse bands on the limbs . The venter is white . The iris is silver with a median horizontal reddish streak .
Similar species : Scinax pedromedinae is similar but is smaller and lacks the orange / yellow and black bars on the hidden surfaces of the hind limbs . S . ruber has a rounded snout and a smooth venter .
Habitat and ecology : This nocturnal , arboreal species is found close to ponds and swamps . It mainly occurs in secondary forests and forest edge areas up to 1250 m asl . It breeds in the wet season , when the males call from a head down position . The females deposit up to 900 eggs as a surface film on the water . It feeds on invertebrates , mainly orthopterans and spiders .
At the MLC : Mainly found in the forest areas close to the wetland of the reserve , and also in other completely cleared now regenerating forest areas with an abundance of temporal ponds .
IUCN Status : Least Concern . Stable . ( Ver 3.1 )
Descripción : La coloración dorsal normalmente es gris , marrón claro o canela con una marca triangular oscura entre los ojos . Ocasionalmente puede tener matices verdosos en el dorso . Tiene una aspecto “ rocoso “ con muchos tubérculos grandes en el dorso . Las superficies posteriores de las patas traseras tienen un patrón de barras negras y naranjas / amarillas . Tiene bandas transversales en las patas . El vientre es blanco . El iris es plata con una banda horizontal rojiza cruzándolo .
Especies similares : Scinax pedromedinae se parece , pero es más pequeño y no presenta las barras negras y amarillas / naranjas en las superficies ocultas de las patas traseras . S . ruber tiene un hocico redondeado y un vientre liso .
Hábitat y ecología : Esta especie nocturna y arbórea se encuentra cerca de charcas y zonas pantanosas . Habita sobretodo bosques secundarios y bordes de bosque hasta los 1250 msnm . Se reproduce durante la estación de lluvias , durante la cual los machos cantan desde una posición bocabajo . Las hembras depositan hasta 900 huevos como una película sobre el agua . Se alimenta de invertebrados , sobre todo de ortópteros y arañas .
En el MLC : Se ha encontrado principalmente en áreas de bosque cerca de la cocha de la reserva y también en otras áreas de bosque completamente aclarado y ahora en regeneración con abundancia de charcas temporales .
Estado de la UICN : Preocupación menor . Estable . ( Ver 3.1 )
