Phyllomedusa vaillanti
Description : The dorsum of this medium to large frog is bright green , with dorsolateral rows of white tubercles . The venter is gray , white or orange with a white blotch on the throat , occasionally filled with green . Another two smaller white spots may also be present , and some individuals may have another two in the vent area . Between the venter and the flanks there isa row of orange spots over a purple base colour .
Similar species : It can be distinguished from other species of Phyllomedusa in the area by the row of white tubercles on the dorsum and the purple areas on the sides .
Habitat and ecology : This arboreal , nocturnal frog inhabits forest ponds where it breeds during the wet season . It lays clutches of a few hundred eggs in a leaf nest hanging over the water . Tadpoles are orange and aggregate in groups ( defined by their size ) during the day , and separate at night . It feeds mainly on orthopterans .
At the MLC : Very common in the wetland of the reserve , where it congregates in large numbers . Also occasionally found in other areas of the reserve , especially close to the wetland .
IUCN Status : Least Concern . Stable . ( Ver . 3.1 )
Descripción : El dorso de esta especie de tamaño mediano a grande es de color verde vivo , con líneas dorsolaterales de tubérculos blancos . El vientre es de color gris , blanco o naranja con una mancha blanca en la garganta que ocasionalmente contiene verde . Otros dos puntos blancos más pequeños pueden estar presentes y algunos individuos pueden tener otros dos en el área ventral . Entre el vientre y los flancos se puede apreciar una fila de puntos naranjas sobre una base de color purpura .
Especies similares : Puede ser distinguida de otras especies de Phyllomedusa en el área por la fila de tubérculos blancos en el dorso y por las áreas de color purpura en los lados .
Hábitat y ecología : Esta rana arbórea , nocturna habita en los estanques de los bosques , donde se reproduce durante la época de lluvias . Deposita puestas de unos pocos cientos de huevos en nidos de hojas que se cuelgan sobre estanques . Los renacuajos son de color naranja y se agregan en grupos ( definidos por su tamaño ) durante el día , y se separan en la noche . Se alimenta principalmente de ortópteros .
En el MLC : Muy común en la cocha de la reserva , donde se congrega en grandes números . Es también encontrado de manera ocasional en otras áreas de la reserva , especialmente en áreas cercanas a la cocha .
Estado de la UICN : Preocupación menor . Estable . ( Ver . 3.1 )
