Description: This large frog is completely bright green
dorsally. The dorsum is unmarked. The flanks are mottled
with irregular cream spots. Some individuals can have blue
warts on the dorsum. The venter is whitish gray with white
blotches on the throat and ventral surfaces of the limbs. The
iris is dark brown/black with a vertical pupil.
Similar species: Its large size, dark brown/black iris and
absence of any other distinctive coloration distinguish this
frog from other Phyllomedusa species in the area.
Habitat and ecology: Little is known about the ecology of this
nocturnal, arboreal species. It inhabits primary, secondary
and open areas in the Amazonian lowlands. It is usually found
near swamps and ponds. Females lay a few hundred eggs on
leaves fairly high (2.5-3.5 m) over ponds.
At the MLC: Found twice in partially cleared and now
regenerating forest and a few times in minimally disturbed
forest.
IUCN Status: Least Concern. Stable. (Ver. 3.1)
Descripción: El dorso de esta rana grande es completamente
verde brillante sin marcas. Los flancos son moteados con
puntos cremas irregulares. Algunos individuos pueden
presentar verrugas azules en el dorso. El vientre es de
color gris pálido con manchas blancas en la garganta y las
superficies ventrales de las extremidades. El iris es de color
marrón oscuro/negro con una pupila vertical.
Especies similares: Su tamaño grande, iris marrón oscuro/
negro y la ausencia de cualquier otra coloración característica
distinguen a esta rana de cualquier otra especie de
Phyllomedusa en el área.
Hábitat y ecología: Poco se sabe acerca de la ecología de
esta especie arbórea y nocturna. Habita bosques primarios,
secundarios y áreas abiertas en las selvas bajas amazónicas.
Se la encuentra por lo general cerca de zonas pantanosas
y charcas. Las hembras depositan unos pocos cientos de
huevos en hojas bastante alto (2.5 – 3.5m) sobre charcas.
En el MLC: Encontrada dos veces en bosque parcialmente
aclarado y ahora en regeneración, y unas cuantas veces en
bosque mínimamente alterado.
