Habitat and ecology: This nocturnal species inhabits tropical
humid montane forest in southern Peru, between 900 and
2000 m asl. It is found along road ditches in primary and
secondary forest areas. Apprently it is not affected by the
chytrid fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis, although we
have found individuals dead or semidead in the Kosñipata
valley which could have been affected by this disease. Males
fight between themselves using a spine like feature present
in their thumbs.
Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis, aunque hemos encontrado
