Description: The dorsum of this small frog is reddish yellow
with scattered red spots at night time and white spots during
the daytime. It has a conspicuous red lateral stripe that runs
from the snout to the groin. Beneath this stripe there is a
parallel adjoining yellow stripe. The iris is pale red and the
venter is yellow and breeding males have a brighter throat
patch.
Similar species: The only other treefrog with red spots on
the dorsum and red lateral stripes is Hypsiboas punctatus,
which is larger, green and appears to be more associated
with permanent water bodies.
Habitat and ecology: This arboreal nocturnal frog can be found
in temporary and permanent ponds in primary and secondary
forests. It is most abundant when they are breeding in the
rainy season close to low lying vegetation around temporary
ponds. The clutch consists of a few hundred eggs.
At the MLC: Mainly found in temporary ponds within the
completely cleared and now regenerating forest.

Descripción: El dorso de esta pequeña rana es amarillo rojizo
con algunos puntos rojos de noche y blancos de días. Tiene
una banda lateral rojiza evidente. Debajo de esta banda hay
una banda amarilla paralela contigua. El vientre es amarillo y
los machos en estado reproductivo tienen una garganta más
brillante. El iris es rojo pálido.
Especies similares: La única otra rana arbórea con puntos
rojos en el dorso y bandas laterales rojas es Hypsiboas
punctatus, que es más grande, verde y parece estar más
asociada con cuerpos de agua permanente.
Hábitat y ecología: Esta rana arbórea y nocturna puede ser
encontrada en charcas permanentes y temporales en bosques
primarios y secundarios. Es más abundante cuando se están
reproduciendo en la estación de lluvias en vegetación baja
alrededor de charcas temporales. La puesta se compone de
unos cientos de huevos.
En el MLC: Se encuentra principalmente en charcas
temporales en bosque completamente aclarado y ahora en
regeneración.
