Amphibians of the Manu Learning Centre
We have not tried to produce a guide to all of the amphibians of Peru ( as there are over 600 species ), or even all of the amphibians on the Manu Biosphere Reserve ( as there are over 160 species ). What we have done is to provide an introduction to 111 species encountered either at the Manu Learning Center or some other areas around Manu , which have been visited by the authors . Some of these are very well known , such as Rhinella marina - the cane toad , whilst others have only recently been discovered , such as Oreobates amarakaeri which was named in 2012 . Much of the information gathered within this guide is a collection of data and photographs from The Crees Foundation research team and various visiting guests , researchers and students .
For each species you will find the following information :
Scientific species name : We follow the taxonomy of Amphibian Species of the World ( Frost , 2016 ), as of January 2016 .
Scientific synonyms : Any other scientific names used in the recent past to represent the current species .
Common names : Any names commonly used to describe the species , both in Spanish and in English . When we have not found any , we have proposed one . In these cases , the name will have an asterisk next to it .
Description : This section outlines the key features we use to identify the species , but it is not exhaustive . Some information might be used from other resources but many observations are from individuals examined by the authors .
Similar species : If similar species exist , this is where we tell you how to tell them apart .
Habitat and ecology : This contains basic information on what we and other researchers have found about the species and its ecology .
At the MLC : This includes information that is specific to the MLC reserve regarding their distribution and any anecdotal information we have discovered along the way .
IUCN Status : This is the International Union for Conservation of Nature ’ s ( IUCN ) status of conservation and trend of the populations of the amphibian species of this guide . The information is correct as of September 2015 ( IUCN , 2015 ).
No hemos intentado producir una guía de todos los anfibios de Perú ( ya que hay más de 600 especies ) ni de todos los anfibios de la Reserva de la Biosfera del Manu ( ya que hay más de 160 especies ). Lo que hemos hecho es elaborar una introducción a 111 de las especies encontradas en el Manu Learning Center o en algunas otras áreas alrededor de Manu que han sido visitadas por los autores . Algunas de estas se conocen muy bien , como Rhinella marina , - el sapo de caña , mientras que otras se han descrito recientemente como Oreobates amarakaeri , que fue nombrada en 2012 . Mucha de la información recogida en esta guía proviene de los datos y fotografías obtenidos por el equipo de investigación de la Fundación Crees y diversos visitantes , investigadores y estudiantes .

Nombre científico : Seguimos la taxonomía de Amphibian Species of the World ( Frost , 2016 ), consultada en Enero de 2016 .
Sinónimos científicos : Cualquier otro nombre científico que se haya usado en el pasado reciente para esa especie .
Nombres comunes : Cualquier nombre usado comúnmente para describir a la especie , tanto en español como en ingles . Cuando no hemos encontrado uno , hemos propuesto uno . En estos casos , el nombre tendrá un asterisco junto a él .
Descripción : Esta sección subraya las características clave que usamos para identificar a las especies , pero es exhaustiva . Parte de la información puede provenir de otras fuentes , pero muchas observaciones proceden de individuos examinados por los autores .
Especies similares : Si existen especies parecidas , es aquí donde te contamos como diferenciarlas .
