In addition to this field guide, The Crees Foundation research
team has published two rapid colour guides through The
Field Museum for amphibians and reptiles (Whitworth &
Villacampa 2014a-b). We have also reported on new frog
records for Manu and Peru (Villacampa et al. 2013, Allen et
al. 2014, Catenazzi et al. 2014), and this guide represents
the first record of 8 species in Manu, some of them still
waiting to be formally described and named.
A number of manuscripts involving herpetological data from
The Crees Foundation’s research programme are currently
under preparation for publication in international scientific
journals. These relate to the herpetofauna biodiversity in
regenerating forests, in how different methodologies can
lead to different conclussions on the conservation value of
herpetofauna, and on the impact of climate change on the
amphibian communities of the Piñi Piñi range.
A number of potential new species to science have been
also detected in the regenerating forest of the MLC,
including no fewer than three species of Pristimantis (rain
frogs), potential new species of Noblella and Hyloscirtus and
a new species of Ameerega (poison dart frog), which are
currently being investigated and described with a number
of collaborators.
Finally and most importantlly, the Crees Foundation invest a
lof of effort in diseminating our results and their importance
among a very diverse group of people. It runs regular
training to international volunteers, public engagement
activities with local communities and visitors, has been part
of national and international conferencias, and it also runs
an internship programme where national and international
students learn in-depth about research methodologies,
conservation issues and local development.
Además de esta guía, el equipo de investigación de la
Fundación Crees ha publicado dos guías de campo a través
de The Field Museum para anfibios y reptiles (Whitworth
& Villacampa 2014a-b). Hemos reportado también nuevos
registros de ranas para Manu y Perú (Villacampa et al.
2013, Allen et al. 2014, Catenazzi et al. 2014), y esta guía
representa el primer registro de 8 especies en Manu, algunas
de ellas todavía aguardando a ser descritas y nombradas
formalmente.
Tenemos en preparación varios manuscritos para su
publicación en revistas científicas internacionales, usando
los datos herpetológicos del programa de investigación
de la Fundación Crees. Tratan sobre la biodiversidad de
la herpetofauna en bosques en regeneración, en como
diferentes metodologías pueden llevar a diferentes
conclusiones sobre el valor de conservación de her petofauna
y sobre el impacto del cambio climático en las comunidades
de anfibios de la cordillera del Piñi Piñi.
También hemos encontrado varias especies potencialmente
nuevas para la ciencia en el bosque en regeneración,
incluyendo no menos de tres especies de Pristimantis
(cutines), y una de Noblella, Hyloscirtus y de Ameerega
(ranita venenosa), que están siendo actualmente estudiadas
y descritas por varios colaboradores.
Por último, y de manera más importante, la Fundación
Crees ha invertido mucho esfuerzo en diseminar nuestros
resultados y su importancia entre un grupo muy diverso
de gente. Lleva a cabo de manera habitual formación de
voluntarios internacionales, actividades de divulgación
con las comunidades locales y visitantes, ha sido parte
de conferencias nacionales e internacionales, y además
cuenta con un programa de pasantía en el que estudiantes
nacionales e internacionales aprenden en profundida
dacerca de metodologías de investigación, problemas de
conservación y desarrollo local.
