Description: This large frog has a reddish brown dorsum with
dark brown and light brown transverse bands. It has low
dorsolateral folds that extend from the eye to the sacrum.
A black stripe extends from the snout, passing through the
eye to the base of the forelimb. It has triangular-shaped dark
markings in the upper lip. Transverse bands are present on
the limbs. The flanks are dull orange. The posterior surfaces
of the thighs are black with orange flecks. The venter is cream
with scattered brown mottling. The upper part of the iris is
bronze and the lower part dark orange.
Similar species: Leptodactylus pentadactylus is similar but its
dorsolateral folds end in the groin, it has a diagonal fold from
the tympanum onto the flanks and its venter is dark grey with
a bold white mottling. Other Leptodactylus in the area lack
the distinctive labial markings and have a different pattern
of coloration.
Habitat and ecology: This nocturnal terrestrial frog can be
found in terra firma forest and floodplain forest. Reproduction
occurs mainly during the rainy season; clutches of about
1000 eggs are deposited in foam nests. This species feeds on
arthropods, mainly beetles, ants and millipedes.
At the MLC: Not recorded.
IUCN Status: Least Concern. Stable. (Ver. 3.1)

lluvias. Sus puestas tienen alrededor 1000 huevos que son
depositados en nidos de espuma. Esta especie se alimenta de
artrópodos, principalmente escarabajos, hormigas y milpies.
