Description: The colouration pattern of this lime green
tree frog varies between day and night. At night time
the green dorsum takes a reddish coloration, at day time
bright lime green. Yellow and red spots on the dorsum
are always present, as is a dorsolateral red stripe that
runs from the snout to the mid-dorsal area. The venter is
white, with a green tinged throat. The ventral surfaces of
the limbs are bluish green. The iris is pale gray with fine
black reticulations.
Descripción: El patrón de coloración de esta rana arbórea
verde lima varía entre el día y la noche. De noche el dorso
verde se torna de coloración rojiza, de día verde lima brillante.
Siempre presenta en el dorso moteado amarillo y rojo, y
también una banda dorsolateral roja que va del hocico a la
región medio-dorsal. El vientre es blanco y la garganta tiene
matices verdes. Las superficies ventrales de las extremidades
son verde azulado. El iris es gris pálido con un fino reticulado
negro.
Similar species: Sphaenorhynchus carneus is similar but
it is smaller and has a very different general body shape.
Dendropsophus rhodopeplus has a red dorsolateral stripe
but it has a yellow dorsum. Other green tree frogs and
glass frogs lack the red dorsolateral stripe.
Especies similares: Sphaenorhynchus carneus es parecido
pero es más pequeño y tiene una forma general del cuerpo
muy diferente. Dendropsophus rhodopeplus tiene una banda
dorsolateral roja, pero tiene un dorso amarillo. Otras ranas
arbóreas verdes y ranitas de cristal no tienen la banda
dorsolateral roja
Habitat and ecology: This nocturnal species inhabits
permanent ponds, oxbow lakes and river edges with
abundant grassy vegetation. It is a generalist forager
and the main part of its diet consists of dipterans. Males
defend territories. They call from floating vegetation.
Females lays clutches of up to 350 eggs in clusters of 7-15
eggs. The eggs are laid as a surface layer on the water
adhered to vegetation.
At the MLC: It is mainly found in the wetland of the
reserve. Males have been found calling all year at this
spot and females with eggs have been found both in the
rainy and dry season.

Hábitat y ecología: Esta especie nocturna habita charcas
permanentes, cochas y riberas de quebradas con abundante
vegetación herbácea. Tiene una dieta generalista que en su
mayor parte consiste en dípteros. Los machos defienden
territorios y cantan desde vegetación flotante. Las hembras
ponen puestas de hasta 350 huevos en grupos de 7 a 15. Los
huevos son depositados en una capa superficial sobre el agua
adherida a vegetación.
En el MLC: Se encuentra principalmente en la cocha de la
reserva. Se ha registrado a los machos llamando durante
todo el año en este lugar y se han encontrado hembras con
huevos tanto en la estación húmeda como en la seca.
Estado de la UICN: Preocupación menor. Estable. (Ver. 3.1)
