UK fashion exports £ 10.7 billion in 2016 ; highest till now
Exports of British fashion goods rose to £ 10.7 billion in 2016 , the highest on record , indicating a clear demand for such goods , with the US , Hong Kong and Australia — the top three buyers of British fashion brands outside Europe — consuming more than £ 1 billion worth of exports in that year , says the UK Department for International Trade ( DIT ).
According to Her Majesty ’ s Revenue and Customs statistics , the figure represents an 8 per cent rise over the 2015 export figures of footwear , clothing and textiles , says a recent UK government press release .

While the additional cotton stocks will be spread across nearly all markets , the exact burden will vary substantially . Major exporters will bear the brunt of the burden of high stocks , with Central Asia , Africa , the Southern Hemisphere , and the US all forecast to have stock levels well above recent averages , states the October 2017 report on cotton released by the Foreign Agricultural Service of the USDA .
In South Asia , cotton stocks are projected to grow as production increases three times as much as the region ’ s growth in use . Stocks throughout the region will be at unusually high levels , particularly in India , the major exporter .

Ethiopia plans commercialisation of Bt cotton
Ethiopia , after adopting a law that allowed experimenting with the transgenic Bt cotton in laboratory and fields , has entered the final stage of field trials after four years of experiment with four different samples of this cotton variety taken from India and Sudan . It plans to supply transgenic cotton seed varieties to the global market in the long run .
According to the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research ( EIAR ), the field trials show that Bt cotton could reverse the influence of insects that greatly affect crop productivity in the country .
Cotton stocks accumulating everywhere outside of China : USDA
Global cotton stocks outside of China are expected to rise by nearly 12 million bales to a record 53 million bales in 2017-18 season , the US department of agriculture ( USDA ) has predicted . Despite a relatively strong forecast of 3.8 per cent increase in global cotton use , a 15 per cent expansion in production will outpace demand , increasing global stocks .

Pakistan ’ s PCCC signs MoU with ICRA for info exchange
The International Cotton Researchers Association ( ICRA ) under the International Cotton Advisory Committee ( ICAC ) has signed an agreement with the Pakistan Central Cotton Committee ( PCCC ) for exchanging research information between scientists from Pakistan and other nations . ICAC is an association of members of cotton producing , consuming and trading nations .
ICRA has also inaugurated its first secretariat in Pakistan at the PCCC headquarters in Multan .
Cotton demand to rise in Myanmar as textile plants reopen
The demand for cotton in Myanmar is expected to rise and production likely to double with the reopening of government textile factories this year . Government-owned and private factories have ordered up to 4.08 million kg since the start of the July-September cotton production season and traders have sold out all their stock , according to Myanmarese media reports .
Most government textile factories didn ’ t run the mills in the last few years . Last year , cotton production declined due to heavy rains in July , August and November .
