valued at $529.346 million.
Likewise, exports of woven apparel
increased 4.04 per cent to $3.397
billion during the period under review,
compared to exports of $3.265 billion
during July-September 2016. The US
was the largest importer with $938.852
million worth of woven clothing
supplied by Bangladesh. Germany and
the United Kingdom procured woven
apparel valued at $486.939 million and
$432.927 million, respectively.
Woven and knitted apparel and
clothing accessories’ exports together
accounted for 82.46 per cent of $8.662
billion worth of total exports made by
Bangladesh during the three-month
period.

BGMEA signs PaCT 2nd phase with
IFC for green production
The International Finance Corporation
(IFC) recently signed a pact with the
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers
and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to
implement the second Partnership for
Cleaner Textile (PaCT) in 250 spinning,
dyeing and finishing units. Started in
2013, PaCT advises factories to adopt
modern technologies and reduce water
and energy consumption.
The IFC will spend $7 million for
implementing the second phase of
the programme. The first one was
implemented in 215 factories at a cost
of $11 million, according to Bangladesh
media reports.
During the second phase, IFC is
targeting to save 32 million cubic
litres of water annually and 3.8 million
megawatt hours of electricity in 250
weaving, spinning, wet dyeing and
finishing factories. It aims to annually
reduce greenhouse gas emissions by
701,588 tonnes, wastewater discharge
by 28.8 million cubic litres and chemical
use by 10,000 tonnes.

China’s textile & apparel exports
rise 4.3% in September 2017
Registering an increase of 4.3 per
cent year-on-year, the exports of
textiles and apparel from China stood
at $23.750 billion in September 2017,
according to the statistics released
by the General Administration of
Customs. While textile exports soared
16.2 per cent to $8.970 billion, apparel
exports fell for the second consecutive
month by 1.7 per cent to $14 .780
billion.
During the first three quarters of
2017, cumulative textile and garment
exports from China totalled $198.520
billion, showing an increase of 0.9 per
cent year-on-year. Of this, textile exports
were up 2.9 per cent to $80.660 billion,
whereas clothing exports decreased 0.9
per cent to $117.860 billion.

Chinese firm to build textile
industrial park in Nigeria
The government in Kano state in
northern Nigeria has signed an
agreement with China’s Shandong
Ruyi Technology Group to establish
a $600-million textile industrial
park. The agreement was signed
recently by secretary to the state
government Alhaji Usman Alhaji and
the company’s chairman Yafu Qiu at
the company’s headquarters in Jining,
Shandong.
The planned investment in Kano
would be the Chinese company’s
biggest in Africa.

breakthrough with its contribution in

project, which has been recognised
by Quanzhou Institute of Equipment
Manufacturing Haixi Institutes, Chinese
Academy of Sciences (CASQIEM) at the
1st High-tech Industrialization Project
Matchmaking Meeting held in Jinjiang,
Quanzhou.
As per an agreement between SBS
Zipper and the Research Group of
Intelligent Design & Manufacturing
of CASQIEM on Technological Project
Cooperation, CASQIEM shall carry out
simulation analyses into SBS zippers
in different varieties and conduct
research into Optimal Design as well
as Intelligent Manufacturing within the
cooperation period.

Intertextile Shanghai Apparel

Another successful Intertextile
Shanghai Apparel Fabrics has wrapped
up with three days of order placing,
relationship building and trend-
spotting. The global industry came
together for the industry’s leading
trade fair, with 4,538 exhibitors from 32
countries and regions presenting their
latest collections and innovations. There
were 77,000 trade buyers.
The exhibition was organised during
October 11-13, 2017.
The gross area of the fair increased
by six per cent compared to 2016.
Reflecting growth in the domestic
market as well as other regions, the
Functional Lab grew 33 per cent in size
this year, Premium Wool Zone grew 18
per cent, while an extra accessories hall
was added to meet demand. With the
entire apparel fabrics and accessories
product spectrum on offer, more than
77,000 trade buyers from over 100
countries and regions chose Intertextile
as their sourcing event for the season.
In 2016, there were 73,927 trade buyers
from 90 countries and regions.
The next Intertextile Shanghai
Apparel Fabrics is the spring edition to
be held during March 14-16, 2018.
