Agroforestry is the combination of agriculture and forestry. Another meaning is land-use systems, practices, and technologies where woody perennials (shrubs, trees, bamboo) are deliberately integrated with agricultural crops and/or animals in the same land management unit (Nair, 1993). The history of agroforestry is “a new word for an old practice”. Later Agroforestry was viewed as an approach to preserve tropical forests. In late 1970, agroforestry was accepted as a sustainable and promising land use system on both farms and forests.

Furthermore, there have four classifications of agroforestry system which is agrisilviculture system, agrosilvopastural system, silvopastural system, and other system. Agrisilviculture system is consists of trees including shrubs and associated crops. Agrosilvopastural system is consisting of trees, crops and animal/pasture. Silvopastural system is consists of trees, animals/pasture. Other system is the combination of woody component with biotic like fish and insects. For instance, aquaforestry is the combination of fish production with trees, apiculture is refer to beekeeping and sericulture (silkworm culture) is the silkworms feed almost entirely on deliberately planted or retained mulberry trees (Morus alba).
