Changing face of Video Games and By John Milby ‘08 Flash Staff Reporter Atari 5800 w/ cartridges size of cartridge: 4 X 4 in (c. late 70’s-c. early 80’s) Gameboy Color w/ cartridges of games size of cartridge: 2 X 4 in (c. 1999-c. 2002) We all know times change but that change isn’t very conspicuous except for a few things. One of these things are computer technology. This is especially present in consoles. A few people might be able to recognize the Atari and the Pioneer receiver. More people will reconize the more modren consoles and the the Sony Hi/Fi CD changer. These are relics of computer technology and show how with the earliest computers, the game designers could only make simplistic games with cell-phone ringer soundtracks. Now we have games that are becoming more and more like movies, and are getting more and more complex. They show off the advancement of technology. The consoles are from left to right: an Atari console that some teachers and parents probably played with in the 80’s; an Xbox, which most people know about it and the fact that it’s cool; A gameboy color…or in other words the old handheld that was cool when it came out in the late 90’s, because it had color; An gameboy advance and gameboy advance SP, two handheld consoles that are cool looking; An receiver that my parent’s got sometime before I was born and still can keep up with my…; CD player/stereo that is sweet (note: I took the picture when I was playing my Led Zeppelin MP3; Led Zepplin is a band from the 60’s and is sweet); and the last two picture are the new(the small one that is a heck an lot more portable) and old clunky PS2 (the big one without any games...just the contollers).
