The Detroit Zoo an Endangered Species? Ice and pebbles surround the polar bear as he walks around. By Paul DiGiovanni ‘07 Flash Staff Reporter The Detroit Zoo has been struggling to stay open; within the last year it has faced several problems from having to get rid of their elephants to city budget cuts and an unarguable city council, which almost closed the zoo. One of the ways that we could fix this problem would be to go to the zoo more often. They have been putting new exhibits in, as of late, to intrigue people to visit. Recently they have installed the Artic Ring of Life, which cost the zoo $14.9 million the make, and if you haven’t seen it yet you should. The funding for this exhibit came from the Detroit Zoological Society who are now responsible for all the money needed to keep the zoo open. The experts say that it is one of the best artic exhibits in the world. There is a really cool under water tunnel were the animals like the sea lions and the polar bears swim as you watch from the submerged tunnel. This exhibit alone should get you out there to see the zoo. When you go remember to take your little sibling or even a little cousin it only cost $11 for adults, $7 for kids ages of 2-12, and kids under 2 are free. What kind of kid doesn’t like the zoo?
