The Click Five
By Ashley Bletch ‘08
Flash Reporter
A lot of parents have waited
for a band that their teenagers
like and that is appropriate for
them to listen to. The Click Five
luckily became that needed addition to the music industry.
Their first appearance was the
opening act for Ashlee
Simpson’s tour, which brought
a new sound to the music fans.
Unlike many boy bands, this
group did not grow up together.
They were all in other bands
before The Click Five. The
original band members were Joe
Guese (lead guitar), Ethan
Mentezer (bass-guitar), Ben
Romans (keyboards), and Joey
Zehr (drums). The fact that everyone in the band sings brought
them closer together. After getting together and playing a few
songs they all realized that they
needed a “front man.” Zehr
contacted a childhood friend,
Eric Dill, who became the lead
vocal and played back-up guitar.
“They gravitated towards
each other after discovering
how huge a swath of musical
common ground they shared,”
said their publicist.
Their first single, “Just the
Girl,” was shown on MTV to
get the viewers hooked on the
new band. Soon afterward, Tshirts and other merchandise
were made. Just shortly after
their first album was released,
they were off to a new life that
included tours, talk shows, radio stations, and concerts.
The words of the songs are
probably what makes people
love them. The whole album is
fantastic. The song “Angel to
You (Devil to Me),” talks about
how people can love someone
so much that it seems as if the
person they love is the devil that
they always wanted, but the
angel that they’ll never have.
Another great song is “Lies.”
Anyone can relate to this song.
This song is about how lies will
break down people worldwide
and how everyday lies are
spread that destroy people’s
self-confidence.
The Click Five addresses
feelings that high school students
go through everyday. The band
breaks down daily problems and
explains what teens can’t understand about their feelings.
They explain what teens cant
put into words in their songs.
Most of all, their songs revolve
around what the heart wants.
According to MTV’s online
polls, since the band came out
teenagers have been listening to
less rap and foul language. The
Click Five is changing everyday
life for teenagers as well as
adults. They are giving all generations something better to listen to in their cars or from their
headphones.
