A new year brought a new chance
Time to rebuild
and start swinging
in a new location for
boys varsity golf

With the departure of seniors
Kyle Fredrick ‘05, Kevin
Onofrey ‘05, and Kale Rigby
‘05 varsity golf team struggled
on September 1 st against
Anchor Bay High School
where they lost 180 to 187.
“I didn’t play well. I only
managed to shoot a 49 and the
team low was a 41 shot by
senior Dave Konieczny ‘06,”
said 11 th grade golf team
member Mike Grillo ‘07.
A major concern was who
would fill the spots of last years
star seniors.
“I think that captain Tony
Flagg ‘06, Dave Konieczny ‘06,
and Brad Cotton ‘06 will try to
fill in for them but it’s not going
to be easy,” said Mike Grillo
’07.
Not only did they have to

replace the best three golfers
on last year’s team, they also
had to change golf courses from
Oakridge to Maple Lane.
This season was a tough test
for the boy’s varsity golf team;
they had to work a lot harder
to try to match last year’s
record of 8-2.
“This year we lost three key
players from last year ’s
season,” said boys varisty golf
coach, Mr. Gary Haxer. “We
also lost three other players
who were going to play Varisty
this year. With that in mind, I
think we had a good season.”
The golf team started out with
two more defeats against
Warren Woods Tower and
Lutheran High North and fell
to a 0-3 start. After several
defeats, they won two games
and went for a third in the
rematch against Warren
Woods Tower.
“Next year is going to be
tough. We will lose our three
key players again,” said Mr.
Haxer. “But we have four
freshman from this year who
may move up to varisty. I think
we will do good.”
Unfortunately the golf team
struggled towards the end of
the session finishing with a 4-6
record.

Fraser Alumni Tennis Mixer,
don’t rain on their parade
By Josh Whipple, Flash Contributor
The second annual tennis alumni tennis reunion took place
on September 17th , 2005. This is an event where students of
the past come back to Fraser High School for a day of tennis.
The event this year had representatives from five decades, 26
people total.
The forecast for Saturday called for sunny skies and temps
in the lower 70’s, but that wasn’t the case. Early in the day it
started raining and the event was postponed. Matches were
only delayed for an hour until they decided to start playing.
The games were doubles and mixed doubles. The first match
of the day took place between Bob Boyd and Steve Lewis,
with wooden racquets. These two were the coaches that day.
Hopefully next year other graduates will join the alumni that
played this year.
