As autumn steadily approaches, pumpkin spice dotting the cooler air and an extra sweater on hand, Gen Z brings with this nice change of weather a new set of fashion trends. Now, many outfits and such are derived from popular running TV series that have underlying values of fashionable taste and inspiration, not just for fall but for year-round style.
Gilmore Girls starring Alexis Bledel, as it seems, has a large input on the choices made for fall fashion. Her character—Rory, is often seen drinking her signature cup of coffee or coming up with witty remarks. Rory is often dressed in oversized sweaters, paired with miniskirts, or tight jeans and a statement top. It seems fall is frequently associated with a sort of academic style of dressing. This is also seen in the show Gossip Girl, starring Leighton Meester, Blake Lively, Ed Westwick, Taylor Momsen, Penn Badgley and Chace Crawford. Each of these characters, especially Meester’s (Blair), Lively’s (Serena) and Momsen’s (Jenny) identify with a strong sense of fashion. You’ll find the trio in petticoats and sheer stockings, a headband in their hair and large watches on their wrists. High stilettos of varying shades of brown and black complete their outfits, and smaller earrings complement any smaller details amongst their person.
However, Gen Z’s new taste for Ugg’s slippers seems to be everything autumn. They opt for an oversized hoodie, jeans or sweatpants, with messy French braids or their hair down all together. Jewelry stacks of varying bracelets and double pierced ears have become a constant trend for the ladies in this young generation. Apart from some of the ‘T-shirt-and-shorts-kid', who will dress in shorts sleeves even as the weather gets colder, most Gen Z gentlemen don’t seem to have much of a change to their everyday style; Sweatpants, plain shirts and occasionally jerseys pop up.
We can conclude that although the generation seems to favor neutral and less threatening designs, they can shift their wardrobe slightly as the weather gets colder.
