The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is marking its golden 50th anniversary this year, running from September 4 through 14, 2025. More than ever, TIFF remains a nexus for film lovers, filmmakers, and culture-makers. With nearly 292 films in this year’s lineup — including 209 features, prime special presentations, and restored classics — the festival is balancing prestige, entertainment, and daring cinematic exploration.
Celebrities brought star power to match the storytelling. Big names like Sydney Sweeney (in Christy), Angelina Jolie (in Couture), and Elle Fanning were on hand for glam premieres. Industry luminaries such as Leslie Mann, Judd Apatow, Shailene Woodley, and Ben Foster also turned out, adding to the festival’s energy and reminding us how TIFF blends industry influence with red-carpet excitement.
Some of this year’s most buzzed-about films include Christy (Sydney Sweeney’s biopic of Christy Martin), Good Fortune (Aziz Ansari’s comedy with Keanu Reeves), Couture starring Jolie, and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery by Rian Johnson. Other standout titles are Hamnet by Chloé Zhao, Hedda from Nia DaCosta, The Lost Bus by Paul Greengrass, and Mile End Kicks by Chandler Levack. These films showcase the diversity of genre, tone, and narrative scope that TIFF 50 has aimed for — artful dramas, genre-blending comedy, political reflections, and personal stories.
