Publisher's Note

It’s that time of year again when we’re still in the mindset of summer. The temperature is still hot across the country and we’re still wearing shorts, flips flops, and short sleeved shirts. September is arguably the best weather month here in Chicago, because it’s not too hot nor too cool. I may need to wear a light jacket in the mornings but come midday the sunglasses are out, and the car air conditioning is booming. However, we know what’s coming around the corner. THE TRANSITION. That one day when we must resolve to packing away summer and embrace fall. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing, especially when you think about fashion. For me adjusting to my fall wardrobe is more fun, because I have more options. I’m able to wear jeans and a blazer during the day without breaking a sweat and my shoe game becomes more versatile when deciding to put on a pair of sneakers or a lightweight boot.

Accessorizing can elevate any look and my go to accessories are my hats and scarves.

The transition is not only about fashion, but about our mindset. Typically, this time of year we’re focused on grinding; work, school, kids, family, and anything else that needs to get done. Fun time is over until the holidays, and as winter approaches we set our sights on spring. The political transition this fall will be critical to our nation and no matter who wins the entire country will have to adapt, adjust, and move on. Let’s hope that this transition goes a lot smoother than four years ago.

The transition is what you make of it. I’m a firm believer that if you take on a positive mindset then good things will follow. Embrace the leaves turning colors, the crispness of the air, early than usual sunsets, and cooler nights. But first embrace this month’s FLM fall fashion issue and start unpacking your fall wardrobe. Enjoy.
