As a wife and mother of two young children how has family and culture played a role in how you approach fashion?

It’s very important for me to set a positive example for my girls. My mother always told me, you are a reflection of me when you walk out that door. I carry that with me to this day. I want to reflect positively on my family and my community.

If you had an alter ego, describe her characteristics and the type of styles she would wear that you wouldn’t dare try to pull off right now.

My alter ego would be a mix of classic Black Hollywood… Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horne and Josephine Baker. I would have their grace and elegance, but also their bold, fierce, and unapologetic approach to success. When it comes to fashion, there’s not much I won’t try now, except show a lot of skin. That’s not and never will be me, even as an alter ego. I would have to say, from my bright color choices to my bright red lips to accentuating my curves, I think I’m more than half way to my aforementioned icons when it comes to their style, but I’m still far from being as fierce as they were.
