Both your personal and professional journey is really interesting . Describe the moment when you knew you wanted to be on TV delivering the news to people watching at home.

I was a child - 12 years old. I was watching TV - sitting on the carpet. I loved to watch talk shows like Oprah. My mom loved to watch local news. I remember turning to my mom and saying, “I don’t ever want to do the news, but if I do, I would work for them.” Twelve years later I was hired at that very same station and I was working for them. It was amazing! I started off as the traffic anchor who told you about road conditions. Within two years I was a morning news anchor on that show. That’s where I learned you have to first get your foot in the door

You grew up in Northern California but have moved and lived all around the country. What three things have you learned that are most important when it comes to exploring new opportunities?

1. Listen to those who are your mentors, bosses, and teachers. Stop arguing with them inside of yourself. Opportunities are only as accessible as those which we have a tour guide..

2. Don’t do it alone. So many of us feel misunderstood as young people; we are the unique one in our family, classrooms and neighborhoods. So we get used to operating alone. But this is dangerous. Get a tribe. Surround yourself with good people, friends and make allies at work who will be honest with you.

3. Rest. Don’t make work your entire life. We all need to recharge. You will last a lot longer in any industry if you have a life of balance.
