The air is brisker, the days are a little shorter, the kids are back in school, and football season is in full swing. That must mean that fall has arrived and in Chicago it signals me to appreciate the summer that just passed and to prepare for what lies ahead over the next several months. Fall maybe my favorite season of the year, other than being a reminder that winter is right around the corner, September and most of October is great weather and filled with activities such as apple picking, cider fests and hayrides. Another welcoming aspect of fall is the opportunity to utilize two different wardrobes in the same day. The days are usually still hot enough to continue wearing my summer gear, but during the evenings the temperature drops just enough that allows me to break out some of my fall clothes. To me, fall has the perfect weather scenario for our wardrobe, but unfortunately, those days are numbered, and we will soon don our winter hats and coats for at least seven months.
As the leaves start to change colors and fall from the trees, I tend to appreciate the beauty of the season even more. I’m sure a lot of designers find inspiration around this time of year that may help them create pieces that are bright, bold, and colorful. This month’s issue spotlights fall fashion on and off the runway that you can embrace and put into action. We’ll show you what to pull from your closet and how to put pieces together. Our cover story blends fashion and music and highlights the inspiration behind a movement that helped others discover another side of themselves. Find advice from our beauty experts that will keep your makeup and skin looking fabulous, discover which movies made the “best of the fest” at the Toronto International Film Festival, and get valuable tips on travel, parenting and giving back. I hope you enjoy this month’s issue and remember that fashion is a state of mind.
