Not only are these movies entertaining and well made, they are monumental. It warms my heart to think of all the little kids who will have someone who looks like them on screen and to finally have someone who looks like them to dress up as for Halloween, something I definitely struggled with growing up. Even as a straight, black woman I can appreciate and understand the significance of movies like Love, Simon and Crazy Rich Asians. The pride you feel when watching these movies is hard to explain because you never know how much you need to see someone that looks like you in mainstream media until you finally see it and feel represented.

So for this year and on I urge everyone to support these films, not only financially, but also with open mindedness and excitement. It has been a long time coming, but we are finally getting films and shows that are representative of the society we live in. Even if you are not the group that is being represented, it is important to understand the impact that representation has and how it can lead to more interesting and diverse films, and hopefully a more knowledgeable and accepting society.
