It is the only region in Italy which produces world class Metodo Classico sparkling wine and has been doing so since Guido Berlucchi and Franco Ziliani created the first bottles in 1961. The wines are made of Chardonnay, Pinot Nero, and Pinot Bianco grapes. Wines are affordable, with many priced between $26-35. Available brands in the Chicagoland area include: Bellavista, Ricci Curbastro, Villa Crespia, and Berlucchi. Franciacorta has recently been nominated for Wine Region of the Year by Wine Enthusiast.
