I feel some people can relate with that loving, yet awkward feeling you experience as you immerse yourself with your partner’s family. For me, my partner and his family are British. Let’s just say we speak sort of the same language, but coming from different parts of the world, I have undergone a vast culture shock. When my partner, Sean, and I met, we were both traveling with our surrounding friends being our family. We would talk about our families from home, as we both seemed curious about the diverse stories we would speak of. After we had been dating for a while, I knew we would eventually both meet the other’s family. I am not afraid to meet people and I consider myself very outgoing, yet for some reason I felt a bit nervous for what was ahead of me. Could I survive the culture differences?
