I grew up in a household with tins of homemade cookies and bowls of candy on the kitchen counter. They were there all the time- no matter the time of year, the bowls were filled with Hershey kisses, chocolate covered pretzels & raisins, fruit jellies, you name it.
Because we lived with them all year long it was no big deal. We would partake every now and then but when my friends came over, watch out! They went absolutely crazy over our candy and snacks. Those same kids had pretty strict diets (by 70's standards) so it was no wonder they let loose when they came to the McGregors.
Fast forward to today where we live in a world of organic, gluten-free, low-carb ideals and admitting that I buy Pringles for my kids is beyond politically incorrect. I've basically labeled myself unfit (on two levels).
I adore my mom friends (stay at home or not) who are so diligent about packing the right reusable lunch box filled with colorful fruits and vegetables for their kids. How wonderful! But what about the chocolate pudding and the fruit cocktail…or the Cheetos?
Come on.
We may not have weight or health issues in my house but three out of four of us have peanut allergies. Reading labels is part of my everyday life- so it isn't as though I am completely oblivious about nutritional content. Having my kids return from school every day healthy is a blessing. Not getting a call from the school nurse after a field trip is a relief.
No...
I'm not THAT
Mom!
