You hold the CANS, Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist credential. Describe what this professional standard means in practical terms for the safety, quality of care, and results a patient can expect.

My CANS credential is a nationally recognized board certification for nurses specializing in aesthetic medicine. Only nurses who have worked in collaboration with a core physician (Plastic Surgery/Dermatology) for a specific number of clinical hours, are eligible to sit for this board exam. Similar to a doctor’s board certification, this is a public record that patients can search when seeking an aesthetic provider. It is considered the golden stamp of approval for nurses who work in the aesthetic medicine space.

As I tell my patients, aesthetic medicine is still medicine. Every injectable, laser, and energy-based treatment requires a thorough understanding of anatomy, technique and science. Being a competent aesthetic provider is as much about delivering beautiful results as it is about recognizing risks, preventing complications, and knowing how to respond if something doesn't go as planned. There are many great aesthetic providers in Chicago, many of whom are my friends and I have a tremendous amount of respect for...however there are also many providers who are underqualified and who do not have proper clinical oversight or experience. Now more than ever, patients need to do their research and proceed with caution and awareness when seeking cosmetic treatments.
