What role does Base 36 play beyond art exhibitions?

It’s part gallery, part media lab, part cultural hub. We publish critical texts, support experimental projects, and redistribute funds in a “Robin Hood” style—taking what we can from the system and rechanneling it into new voices. It’s about cultivating cultural resilience outside the mainstream.

Some argue that “art is a dead medium.” Why continue?

Art may be “dead” in the sense that institutions have hollowed it out into commodity, but the act of making is still vital. Painting, writing, and sound are how I process existence within collapsing systems. Base 36 gives others that same chance—to articulate reality in their own language, free of compromise.

What do you ultimately hope Base 36 achieves?

That it remains uncontainable. That it inspires artists and thinkers to build their own platforms instead of waiting for recognition. And that it proves cultural power can be generated from the margins, not the center.

About Jet Le Parti

Jet Le Parti is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, poetry, and sound. Entirely self-taught, with a background in philosophy and cognitive neuroscience, his practice threads together existentialism, phenomenology, and cultural critique. Known for rejecting sales, galleries, and institutional ties, Le Parti has nonetheless risen to red-chip status in the secondary market. He is also the founder of Base 36, an underground gallery and cultural platform dedicated to decentralized artistic production.
