The Art of Financial Storytelling
Turning Numbers Into a Narrative
s new films, art exhibits, and music
releases debut, we’re reminded of
the power of storytelling — how a
great narrative can move people to see the world differently. In finance, we often think of numbers as the opposite of creativity, but I’ve come to believe that the best financial leaders are also great storytellers.
Numbers on their own generally don’t inspire action. A spreadsheet full of forecasts and variance reports might be accurate, but accuracy isn’t enough to drive strategy. What moves people — what truly changes how organizations operate — is context, meaning, and connection. That’s what financial storytelling brings to the table.
