My journey started in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. Lhasa is the second highest city in the world, with an altitude of 3.656 m. The high altitude, which has less oxygen in the air, is a challenge and taking medicine before the trip was a wise strategy to avoid falling sick. Lhasa is also called a forbidden city. It’s a bustling, vibrant, place famous for its UNESCO declared Potala Palace, which is considered to be the birthplace and landmark of Tibetan Buddhism. It draws thousands of Tibetan pilgrims with their prayer wheels every day. Undoubtedly one of the most special memories and places I have ever seen, was visiting Potala Palace and quietly watching hundreds of pilgrims do their so called “ kora”, which is a clockwise walk around the Palace, spinning their prayer wheels while muttering mantra. This peaceful and deeply spiritual ritual is believed to acquire good karma, purify bad karma, develop compassion and wisdom. I was literally captured and fascinated by this view.
