kinds of people who are really more appropriate to respond to these kinds of things. We can't necessarily ask police officers to not only be police officers but psychologists [or] social workers as well. The question could be asked are we training police officers adequately, are police departments recruiting the right types of people for those jobs, and also are we expecting too much of a police officer? Are they expected to handle too wide a variety of calls? They can't possibly be experts at everything.
EN: If the same situation would have happened today the biggest difference is that all of the neighbors would have cell phones filming, they would have had body cams filming and maybe, maybe that would make the police officers act differently. I don't know necessarily if there have been a lot of major improvements in that field which is why this story is still relevant, which is why this is still something that speaks to the nation right now because we're still going through it. Ten years later and this feels like something that could have happened a month ago.
