Among his many accomplishments, one of Bretz’s significant achievements in research was authoring the country’s first large-scale breast cancer prevention clinical trial using the drug Tamoxifen in 1990. He wrote a 400-page book on this experience called, Sacrificing America’s Women. He was awarded the Carnegie Medal for heroism as well as two medals of excellence given by the commanding general of the 332nd Medical Brigade.
The National Cancer Institute predicts that breast cancer is set to double by 2030. That’s over 400,000 cases and 80,000 deaths. I think it could be argued that America’s women have never been in more perilous times regarding breast cancer, not only because of the increase in numbers, but at the same time federal guidelines call for no mammograms below fifty and only every other year thereafter.
For me and the 28 other women Dr. Bretz has treated, cryoablation was the answer. Had I not known Dr. Bretz prior, chances are I would have listened to my doctor who offered no other option but immediate surgery.
Cryoablation for breast cancer treatment is currently offered at 25 centers nationwide and is FDA approved to treat benign and malignant tissue, including cancer cells. It costs around $2500 and is covered by most insurance plans. While it depends on the grade, stage and type of breast cancer, cryoablation needs to be talked about more! In a recent 5-year multicenter study sponsored by the National Cancer Institute, cryoablation showed a 100% success rate in early stage breast cancers less than 1cm and complete ablation of invasive ductal breast cancer tumors also known as D.C.I.S. or ‘Stage 0.’
So while Trump and Clinton argue over the issues surrounding healthcare, Dr. Bretz is on to the solution. Seems to me this is the man who truly deserves OUR vote.
