Fete Lifestyle Magazine October 2016 Patriotism Issue | Page 19

In WWII, being beautiful was seen as a way to keep up morale for the soldiers who were fighting for our country. Men fought hard for our country and women worked all day. They were mechanics by day and pinup girls by night. The concept of beauty in the 1940's was used as a tool to promote patriotism and red lipstick was a staple for all hard working women. Even military nurses were encouraged to rock that red lip and represent feminine beauty. Red lipstick was so popular that they sold lipstick in patriotic shades like Fighting Red and Victory Red, which Elizabeth Arden created as a tribute to courageous military women. In the summer of 2016, Besame Collection came up with their own Victory Red, to match the original 1941 shade. Genius!

Here are some of my personal favorite "Red Lip" shades for the Perfect Patriotic Pout.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture - No. 1 Le Rouge lipstick has cool blue undertones & is very hydrating.

Dior Rouge Dior N0. 999 - stimulates cell renewal and contains hyaluronic acid that plumps the lips.

Bite Beauty- Amuse Bouche is long wearing and moisturizing.

Nars- Velvet matte lipstick pencil is very pigmented and creamy. This has the stay power you want!

MakeupForever - M-401 Hot Red New & Limited edition is long wearing and vibrant.

Never underestimate the power of red lipstick!!!

There’s a shade of red for every woman.
