How has your experience as a chef — someone who nourishes people daily — shaped the way you think about activism, empathy, and community leadership?
At our core, chefs feed people. We nurture and nourish others — it’s an undeniable connection. That relationship with our community is the foundation of everything we do. Through food and activism, we can extend that sense of community anywhere in the world.
The organization has shown an incredible ability to pivot — from international relief efforts to addressing local needs. How are you responding to the current economic and immigration challenges?
Right now, Chicago is facing challenges that affect both diners and restaurants. People aren’t eating out as often, and the consequences for independently owned small businesses can be devastating. We’re focused on supporting chefs in keeping their doors open and ensuring that the families who depend on them can continue to thrive. It’s not about one big event — it’s a consistent effort to highlight chefs, drive traffic to their restaurants, and build awareness through social media and media partnerships.
