Ever since those days of trying to support my ex-husband's restaurant, as a family we have made it a priority to frequent restaurants in our community. Through this experience, we often find new and exciting places to eat! You see, eating out doesn’t have to be for a special occasion, and it doesn’t have to be the “secondary” option. It’s a matter of the hand you're dealing with in the moment. And sometimes the efficiency and convenience of ordering in can create those special moments between you and your loved ones.
As an owner of a business in the food industry, it was heartwarming to see how people used the comfort of food to feel safe and relaxed during a time that was so not these things.
On multiple occasions when we could not see our family and friends on their birthdays, we sent cakes, or cards and gifts via DoorDash or other delivery means. These apps gave us the ability to stay in contact with the people we love, not just through a phone screen, but emotionally through shared experiences like a favorite restaurant or menu item. The beautiful thing is that even though the COVID panic is long gone, the connections created remain to this day.
Just the other day, I sent my sister a food item that we love as a family, but she has never had, Pho. On a day where morale was low and emotions were high, the text of excitement over how tasty it was and the thankfulness she exuded brought us happiness as a family.
It's these types of connections over food that make this industry such a treasure in a world where connection can sometimes be lost. The food industry will forever be a home to me and my family, and we know how much we
owe to it. So thank you for being there with us through this ride. We hope you continue to find joy in building community around the table with your family and friends whether it’s at your home or your favorite restaurant.
