What was the inspiration for your podcast and the name, Owning Your Legacy?

I was working with a speaking coach on a draft outline for an Edlong All Company Forum. This was a big all company meeting. A re-launch of sorts. I would send my coach an outline and she kept coming back with “no, no, and no. You are giving it all away to your father.”

She was firm. She forced me to acknowledge how instrumental I was in bringing Edlong back from the brink of losing everything to the success we have today. She made me think. Pretty sure I cried, too.

What I came to realize was it was no longer my father's company. He had been gone for 15 years. It was time for me to step into the light and shine. I was incredibly surprised at how scary this concept was to me.

My coach also said, “you are going to write a book.” Another moment of uncertainty. Do I really have enough content of value to readers?

My sister encouraged me, telling me that what I was doing was sharing my experiences, strength, and hope to inspire others to claim their own legacies. Hence, Owning Your Legacy was born. The intention is to inspire current and emerging leaders to bravely claim their light; to shine and share their experience, strength, and hope along the way, too.

The book, which I’m in the process of writing, is my story. The podcast shines a light on the stories of the amazing people I have met along the way. There has not been one interview I didn’t walk away feeling better for it. The feedback we have received from listeners has been validating and heartwarming. We are making a difference in the lives of those we touch.
