Hibernation season is almost here. That’s when it starts to get cold outside across most of the country and folks decide to stay within the confines of their homes instead of going out to battle rain, sleet, and snow. This is also the time of year when we start to pack on the pounds during Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, and of course New Year’s. But we all know that food is a huge part of our culture and society, and we have the most fun celebrating when we’re all feasting and drinking together.
I’m delighted to see how my kids embrace the holidays and each of them has their favorite foods that they must have on Turkey Day. My oldest thinks it’s a big no, no to eat out at a restaurant on Thanksgiving Day. He feels dinner should be cooked at home and spent with family…at home. Can’t really disagree with him on that one, but it would also be nice to just show up at a place, overeat, drink, and then hightail it home without worrying about the clean up afterwards. But then we wouldn’t have leftover mac-and-cheese, cornbread stuffing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, collard greens, mashed potatoes & gravy, buttered rolls, glazed carrots, pumpkin pie, and sweet potato pie to heat up and enjoy for the next several days after. I guess I like the idea of staying at home too. Nonetheless, we will be feasting wherever we land. I hope you and your family indulge in an incredible feast as well. Enjoy reading our November food issue featuring stories on two amazing female chefs and also check out our highlighted recipes that may help you elevate your side dish game this year. Have a wonderful holiday and stay hungry my friends!
