International Women Associates 2018 Woman Extraordinaire Awards
Chicago, IL
Over 300 guests filled the Standard Club dining room in Chicago as International Women Associates (IWA) recently presented its 2018 Woman Extraordinaire (WEX) Award to Shermin Nahid Kruse. Included in the award is a $2,500 stipend, which Kruse has donated to RefuSHE, a Nairobi-based non-governmental-based organization that takes in displaced women and girls fleeing sexual violence and terrorism.
Kruse was honored for her many accomplishments as an international human rights activist focusing on women and girls. Her work mirrors the mission of IWA, which is to engage in cross-cultural exchange, community service, dialogue, and friendship and create connections among people of diverse international backgrounds to work toward a more just and peaceful world.
In her closing remarks, Kruse urged attendees to be steadfast in their work on behalf of human rights, as she quoted from the Talmud in saying, “Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world’s grief. Do justly now. Love mercy now. Walk humbly now. You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it.”
IWA enriches the lives of members through participation in shared experiences that encourage cross- cultural exchange and friendship.
