FLM: Share the benefits and/or challenges of working in the same industry as your husband.

AR: I think there are a lot more “benefits” than challenges. I’ve dated people out of the business, and they didn’t understand why I had to work all the time on the weekends and couldn’t go to weddings, showers, and parties or that I didn’t work 9-5 like most people. With my husband in the business, he gets it and understands all of it. The only downside is sometimes we are “ships passing in the night” or rather “evenings”. When he gets home from work, I start scrambling to get myself and the kids ready for bed, because I “try” to be in bed and sleeping by 8 pm during the week.

FLM: Explain how your professional aspirations and goals have changed over the last 4 years.

AR: My short-term goals have changed, as my life has changed. Currently, I’m in a good place at NBC Chicago as part of a knowledgeable and respected weather team. My shift is essentially a ‘graveyard,’ 1 am to 9 am… so maintaining excellent performance while working those hours, while being present for the kiddos and my partner, is certainly a lofty-enough mission for me right now.

FLM: What 3 major goals would you like to achieve over the next 5 years and what advice would you give to your younger self?

AR: Strive to be the best wife and mom, continue to learn, and perfect my weather knowledge and skills and to have fun in life! And for fun, if I leave the city to get a house with a pool! LOL!
