To hug or not to hug? That is the question that a lot of us are pondering when we see our friends for the first time after being on lockdown for over a year. As the world starts to reopen, vaccinations increase, and mask restrictions are being lifted, we’re all anxious to get out and start to get back to what we did prior to March 2020. But if you’re like me, it still seems a little confusing on what we can do or should not do as it relates to mask wearing. Although the CDC says it’s not necessary to wear a face covering outside, especially if you’re vaccinated, I still see people wearing masks making me feel like I should still wear mine. But, regardless of this confusion, I’m thankful for those scientist, health care workers, and frontline heroes that have made it possible for us to return to a somewhat new normal way of living.

The word hero gets thrown around a lot. For personal reasons each of us determines what makes someone a hero. I recently asked my 9-year old if he could pick 4 people (dead or alive) to have dinner with who would they be? He chose former President Barack Obama, two authors from a book he is reading, and Albert Einstein. I’m not sure if he considered them his heroes, but they are interesting enough where he wants to meet them, especially Einstein who could “make him smarter”. A hero to me is anyone that is selfless in helping others succeed, or those that have overcome incredible obstacles and odds in their lives to lead a productive and successful life.

The stories in this month’s issue are personal and inspiring and I hope that they encourage you to reflect on who motivates you every day. Welcome back world and let us get things restarted. Enjoy FLM May!
