DC: Compare the major differences between your new recipe book Gather & Graze and Girl in the Kitchen.

SI: I wrote Girl in the Kitchen before I had even opened Girl & the Goat. A few of the recipes in Girl in the Kitchen actually ended up on the menu at Girl & the Goat…for example the XX ended up being the green beans on the menu. With Gather & Graze, I had opened Girl & the Goat, Little Goat and Duck Duck Goat, so the recipes in this book are a combination of some of my favorites from all three of my restaurants.

DC: Gather & Graze has 120 of your favorite recipes, but what are your top 5 “go to” dishes that you would recommend to your close friends?

SI: Well, I love all of the recipes in this book, that’s why we wrote it! But…if I had to pick a few of my favors they would be:

oShrimp Toast. I love Shrimp Toast! This is on our menu at Duck Duck Goat and is one of my favorites to serve at a party when I’m having people over – you can put a few pieces out and its easy to make more in the kitchen as the night goes on with friends!

oPerfect Pancakes Two Ways. These pancakes combine the fluffiness of a buttermilk pancake with the savory funkiness of a sourdough one – we literally mix the two batters together. They also happen to be one of my son Ernie’s favorites. He eats them for breakfast whenever he comes to Little Goat Diner in the morning!
