1. First, stop looking at what you “think” you are
supposed to look like and start doing things that make
you feel good about yourself. Find successes beyond the
scale, take inches to stay on pace and find new fitness
obstacles to conquer!
2. Find a finish line after the finish line. It is so easy to fall back into bad habits once you hit your goal. Before the Biggest Loser completed, I signed up for the Chicago Marathon; I needed something to keep me on track. There was no way I could learn to kick a lifetime of bad habits in 6 short months on the Biggest Loser Ranch. I’m always searching for new finish lines to cross, even if I fall across at the end.
3. FOOD! Food is everything and it’s not about the next fad diet but about finding a balance with
food and fitness. Look in your kitchen and try to stock it with REAL foods. Eliminating processed
foods was a big step for me. However, when I simplified my diet, eating things in their whole
form (apple, not apple juice, steel cut oats, not processed flat oats) I was more satisfied and it
made my choices easier. Tip: Try a new recipe every week, changing up foods helps stray
from the monotony of eating just plain chicken breasts and broccoli.
4. Workout with a buddy! Find friends that will join you on your fitness adventure.
That way when your alarm goes off at 5AM, there is also someone else that you
can rely on that is ready to workout!
5. Know your triggers and find healthy alternatives to fight them. When I get
a craving for that giant chocolate bar, I literally drop what Im doing, call my
bestie and go for a walk. I’ve also tried kitting, playing with fidget
spinners, and painting; anything to keep idol hands at bay! And no, a
knitting needle is not a marshmallow skewer for s’mores.
