Smile and Say Thanks! In racing, when people call my name or my race number and cheer for me, I make sure I smile and say ‘Thank you!” This can sometimes be tough especially if squeaking out a word feels like a lot of work, but it always brings me a boost of energy.
Life Lesson: A
gratitude practice is
an effective way to
shift your mood and
attention. In your
daily activity, you
have opportunities
all the time to give
a smile or express
your gratitude. You
can create a sense
of connection and
community with
this practice. One
of my favorite
things about
endurance sports is
that people seem
to pull together
during these events;
whether you are an
athlete or spectator,
the vibe is support
and encouragement.
Wouldn’t it be cool if we had
that vibe in our daily lives?
Set yourself up for success. Taking care of your
physical needs in order to be successful in an endurance
event is mandatory. Sleep, nutrition & hydration are all key components to set your body up for optimal functioning. You don’t have to be an athlete to know that these 3 are also cornerstones to health. But it takes more than just the physical training.
Life Lesson: Physical training without mindset training leaves a gap in potential and performance. In sports, we use visualization of the event, technique and goal times. In life, visualize and get crystal clear on the goals you have for your life. Picture yourself living those goals. The clearer the visualization, the more likely you will be to accomplish the goals.
