I sent Rene a photo of my three children walking on the beach in Lake Forest, taken by photographer Melissa Song. Looking at the image, you see they are clearly independent souls, walking together in the same direction. Individually, they are distinct. One is looking ahead, one to the side and another kicking sand. Yet viewed together, they share a collective purpose.
Between Rene's Parisian escape that summer and Melissa's perfect image, the inspiration was there for the creation of our beloved mural at Deerpath Middle School. Its presence visible hundreds of feet away serves as a beacon to this engaging place. The mural captures the spirit of the kids who come alive in their new environment.
The artwork and the space truly serve our kids for refuge and reflection as well as innovation and discovery. It was a true testament to furthering our goal of collaboration - to demonstrate the power of art as a backdrop in the most high-tech environments.
